Joey Reyes made this comparison between K-drama and Pinoy series
Prominent filmmaker Joey Reyes compared K-drama series and Pinoy teleseryes and this received reactions from celebrities.
Teleseryes have long been part of the regular TV programming in the Philippine since time immemorial. Each television station are showcasing various teleseryes for their primetime slot.
At times, there are series that are shown during the afternoon programming. Some last for a season while some teleseryes extends for several years.
However, K-dramas have invaded the viewing preference of the Pinoy viewers and Joey Reyes has stated why various series from South Korea became a hit in the Philippines. He even elaborated on the reasons why he find them addicting.
In his recent Facebook post, Direk Joey enumerated the K-dramas that caught his attention and the theme being tackled in each, based on the article from PEP.
“START UP is about setting up businesses. IT’S OK NOT TO BE OK is about mental health. LIFE is about health care and business. ITAEWON CLASS is about dignity in ambition. SKY CASTLE is about parents and education. RECORD OF YOUTH is about choices in life and the sacrifices you make,” he said. He also stressed that this is the K-drama today.
Then, the filmmaker pointed out the repetitious theme being tackled in the Pinoy teleseryes. The director, apparently sounded exasperated with these words.
This post of Direk Joey Reyes received comment from Pinoy celebrities such as Ina Feleo, Carmina Villaroel, Janice de Belen, Christian Bables, and Maila Gumila. They all agreed with what the director said. Here are their comments.
