COVID-19 Vaccine Projected Distribution Date In PH, 2nd Quarter Of 2021
COVID-19 VACCINE – The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) revealed their projected distribution date for a coronavirus vaccine in the PH.
Currently, there are several candidates for a COVID-19 vaccine. Among the leading names is Pfizer which claimed that their vaccine had a 95% success rate. Meanwhile, pharmaceutical company Moderna also revealed their vaccine candidate to be 94% successful.
Meanwhile, amid the progress with the vaccine, the World Health Organization (WHO) reminded countries that they should still fight the virus without the vaccine. WHO’s executive director said that the vaccine won’t be a “magic bullet” that could stop the virus in its tracks.
Still, the Philippines has began to hasten the procurement of these vaccines against the new coronavirus. According to an article from ABS-CBN, the FDA said that the vaccines could arrive in the country at the second quarter of 2021.
Recently, the Department of Health (DOH) requested President Rodrigo Duterte for an executive order that allowed the FDA to issue emergency use authorization (EUA) for the coronavirus vaccines. Furthermore, Duterte is expected to issue the EO in the next days.
Along with this, FDA Director-General Eric Domingo said that once the Philippines has a EUA mechanism in place, procurement of the vaccines would come easier. As per the article, he said: “Once makakuha sila (vaccine developers) ng EUA, for example, sa US FDA, mas mapapabilis talaga ‘yung proseso“.
