Netizens reacted to the P4.2-million DepEd ham and cheese budget
DepEd Ham and Cheese – The Department of Education received criticisms after it announced that it canceled the bidding for its budget for ham and cheese.
Based on the recent Twitter post of Philstar correspondent Janvic Mateo, the education department was supposed to hold a bidding today, November 14, which is a regular procurement.
Reportedly, the multi-million budget for the said items was for the central office Christmas celebration. “We have since reallocated the funds for the needs of those affected by Typhoons Rolly and Ulysses and the ongoing COVID-19 effort for our employees,” DepEd said.
The report also stated that the invitation to bid was posted on November 12. In line with this, netizens expressed various reactions on Twitter regarding the DepEd ham and cheese budget.
The education department is one of the top trends on the micro-blogging site on Saturday, November 14.
Several netizens slammed the agency for having the said amount allocated for the said items amid the crisis in the country. A netizen even mentioned that DepEd has not allocated enough funds for the modules but will have P4.2-million for food.
Some netizens said that DepEd is not helping teachers and students in online classes but has the allotted a budget for their Christmas party. There were those who called about the attention of Education Secretary Leonor Briones.
A netizen also slammed the Secretary’s statement about modules who got soaked in the flood brought by typhoon Ulysses to just let it dry and then iron the pages.
