PALABOK | About The Noodles With Orange Sauce
PALABOK – In this topic, we are going to know and learn about the noodle dish with orange sauce known as palabok.
It is a type of noodle dish, known as pancit in the Philippines usually with an orange sauce. It is called “Filipino noodles topped with orange sauce” by the foreigners.
The dish usually has thin noodles with, as mentioned above, a savory sauce served on top. It is up for the eater to mix the sauce with the noodles. Toppings for this dish vary from area to areas but includes tofu, ground pork and chicharon.
There are other variats on this pancit. For instance, Pancit Malabon uses thicker noodles and a pre-mixed sauce. The sauce is already mixed with the noodles before serving. Toppings include seafood like squid and shrimps.
Another variant is the Pancit Luglug, which uses similar ingredients, except that the sauce is served on top of the noodles, whith the latter being thicker.
The term also means “flowery”, which means full of elaborate or literary words and phrases.
According to TagalogLang in its fun trivia, Philippine food company Mama Sita labeled its orange sauce as “Oriental Gravy”.
