PAGASA – TCWS No. 2 Still Hoisted Over Batanes

PAGASA – Weather bureau PAGASA recently said that Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 2 was hoisted over Batanes and Babuyan Islands.

The state weather bureau said in its 11 AM bulletin that Severe Tropical Storm Siony maintained its strength while moving westward toward Luzon Strait.

TCWS no. 1 was hoisted over the following areas, according to a report from GMA News:

    • Gonzaga
    • Lal-Lo
    • Allacapan
    • Santa Teresita
    • Buguey
    • Camalaniugan
    • Aparri
    • Ballesteros
    • Abulug
    • Pamplona
    • Sanchez-Mira
    • Claveria
    • Santa Praxedes
  • northern portion of Apayao
    • Santa Marcela
    • Luna
    • Calanasan
  • northern portion of Ilocos Norte
    • Adams
    • Pagudpud
    • Bangui
    • Dumalneg
    • Burgos
    • Vintar
    • Pasuquin
    • Bacarra

Siony is expected to accelerate westward or west-northwestward in the next 48 hours.

The center is expected to make landfall over or graze the vicinity of Batanes or Babuyan Islands on Friday morning. It is more likely to reach typhoon category with peak intensity of 120 kilometers per hour as it passes near or over the Batanes-Babuyan Islands area.

It is expected to be outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility. by Friday afternoon or evening.

Siony was last spotted at 475 kilometers east of Basco, Batanes as of 10 AM. It is moving westward at 25 kilometers per hour and gusts of up to 115 kilometers per hour.

Batanes, Babuyan Islands, the northern portion of Ilocos Norte, and the northern and eastern coastal areas of mainland Cagayan will still face strong breeze to near gale conditions due to the prevailing northeasterlies until the arrival of tropical cyclone winds, based on the report.

Pangasinan and most parts of Central Luzon, Metro Manila, CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, Bicol Region, Visayas, and Mindanao will face scattered light to moderate with at times heavy rainshowers in the next 24 hours due to the extension of Siony.

Moderate to heavy rains will start affecting Batanes and Babuyan Islands on Friday early morning.

The bureau said that floods or landslides may occur during heavy or prolonged rainfall especially in areas that are highly or very highly susceptible to these hazards.
