Typhoon Rolly Spares NCR Despite Raising Signal No. 4 – PAGASA

Typhoon Rolly Spares NCR Due To Westward Movement

TYPHOON ROLLY SPARES NCR – As parts of Bicol and Southern Luzon were ravaged by the strongest typhoon in the world, Metro Manila seemed to be spared.

As we can recall, Metro Manila and provinces in NCR raised an alert level 4 due to Typhoon Rolly. However, Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) weather forecaster Benny Estajera said NCR didn’t experience Signal No. 4 levels of wind and rain.

He explained that this was due to Rolly’s westward movement. According to an article from Inquirer, Estajera explained:

Yung reason dyan ay nag-westward yung general movement nitong si Rolly while going from Bicol region across Quezon hanggang dito sa Batangas. So yung forecast track na pa-northwest na halos doon na dikit na dito sa Metro Manila yung sentro is medyo lumayo

Furthermore, he cited that Rolly had a significant drop in strength which is why Metro Manila didn’t experience strong winds. Still, strong winds and heavy rains were experienced in the southern parts of NCR such as Cavite, Batangas, Laguna, and Quezon provinces.

Due to its sudden weakening, Rolly has been downgraded to a tropical storm. However, it has already done immense damage in the Bicol Region and nearby provinces.

Currently, Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 is still imposed in several areas in the country such as:

  • Northwestern portion of Occidental Mindoro
  • Western portion of Batangas
  • Extreme western portion of Laguna, Cavite, Metro Manila
  • Western portion of Bulacan
  • Western portion of Pampanga, Bataan
  • Southern portion of Zambales.
