Over 900 Stranded In Albay, Sorsogon As Rolly Approaches Bicol
OVER 900 STRANDED IN ALBAY, SORSOGON – As the Philippines braces for Typhoon Rolly, several hundred passengers were left stranded in Albay and Sorsogon.
Typhoon Rolly, with the international name: Goni, is forecasted to be one of the biggest Typhoons to hit the Philippines. As such, several local government units in high-risk areas have already begun evacuating its residents.
Meanwhile, Ensign Ryan Oloya, acting operations officer of Philippine Coast Guard – Bicol stated that as of 8:00 in the morning, 125 passengers were left stranded in PIO Duran port. Meanwhile, six others where stranded in Tabaco City in Albay.

Likewise, 757 passengers were stuck in Matnog, Sorsogon, with 17 others stranded in Pilar port. Along with this, at least 439 rolling cargoes, 31 fishing vessels, and six motor boats were also stuck due to the Typhoon.
On Thursday, the Office of Civil Defense in Bicol imposed a “no-sailing” policy for all fishermen in the region. According to the latest weather update from PAGASA, Typhoon Rolly was last spotted at 655 kilometers east northeast of Virac, Catanduanes and moving closer to the Bicol region.
Rolly has maximum sustained winds of 215 kilometers per hour and gustiness of up to 265 kph. Along with this, the state-run weather bureau also said Rolly could potentially become a super typhoon within the next 12 hours.
Concerningly, PAGASA also forecasted the Typhoon to raise signals number 3 and 4 in some areas of the Philippines.
“In the next two days bahagya pong susubsob ito, bahagya pong patimog kanluran ang kanyang direksyon kung kaya’t bababa ang kanyang lokasyon sa susunod na dalawang araw patungo sa karagatan malapit sa Kabikulan“, said weather bureau’s weather specialists Loriedin Dela Cruz.
