Catriona Gray Expresses Support for Newly-crowned MUP 2020 Rabiya Mateo
CATRIONA GRAY – Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray defended Miss Universe Philippines 2020 Rabiya Mateo from criticisms.
Iloilo’s Rabiya Mateo won the Miss Universe Philippines 2020 title over heavily-favorite candidates during the grand finals of the national pageant aired Sunday, Oct. 25. Her triumph turned controversial after Miss Taguig Sandra Lemonon posted cryptic messages on her IG stories.
Lemonon hinted that something unfair happened during MUP. As of this writing, she has yet to expound her posts.
Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray defended Rabiya Mateo from criticisms. She advised her to turn the negativity around her into something that will make her stronger.
During her interview with ANC, the Fil-Aussie beauty queen said “I’ve actually already personally reached out to Rabiya…But I just try to comfort her to know that, at the Miss Philippines, there is always people who would talk about you…give positive and negative.”
“It really comes with the territory of being a Philippine Queen. But she (Rabiya) has an amazing opportunity, considering what her back has really gone through to be able to perform at the level that they have, and what the country is still going through this pandemic,” she added.

Catriona Gray added that the Ilongga beauty now has an “amazing opportunity to really rise above the hate and rise above criticism.” Rabiya can show how queens can help her community.
In a previous article, Catriona Gray announced on her IG account that she will be traveling to Columbia next month. She will be one of the judges of the Miss Universe Colombia pageant.
