Gov’t To Pay Red Cross “Within The Week” Says Año

Gov’t To Pay PH Red Cross P1 Billion Debt Within The Week

GOV’T TO PAY RED CROSS – Recently, the Philippine Red Cross said they could no longer accommodate swab testing for PhilHealth beneficiaries.

As the coronavirus outbreak began to spread throughout the Philippines, several alleged anomalies surfaced within the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation. This led to several high-ranking officials of PhilHealth stepping down from their posts as investigations began.

In Addition, PhilHealth accomulated a debt to Red Cross worth close to P1 billion. As a response, Interior Secretary Eduardo Año said the government would begin to settle its debt this week. Yesterday, President Rodrigo Duterte mentioned in his public address that he would “look for the money”.

Meanwhile, During an interview on Teleradyo, Año stated:

Within the week target namin makapagstart na at bayaran sila. Malaking tulong kasi ang Red Cross. Almost 80 percent ng requirements natin natutugunan ng Red Cross.

(Within the week, we target that we’d be able to pay them. Red Cross has been a big help. Almost 80% of our requirements are accommodated by Red Cross).

Last week, The Philippine Red Cross announced that they could no longer do swab testing for OFWs, government workers, and frontliners who use PhilHealth cards to ensure payment.

As the government and the Philippine Red Cross clear things regarding the debt issue, PhilHealth directed OFWs to visit accredited testing centers. These include the Lung Center of the Philippines and the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM).
