According to a report from ABS-CBN News, the vehicle of retired Col. Fernando Villanueva was about to head home to San Fernando, Pampanga when it was ambushed at 6 in the evening.

The victim and his driver was able to get out of the vehicle, according to Police Staff Sgt. Ronald Rosario, citing their investigation.

“Nakasakay sila noong issued vehicle… May pumutok sa tagiliran and then ang ginawa nila, dahil may traffic congestion, bumaba sila, tumakbo sila,”

Villanueva was shot in the head, causing his death. The Scene of the Crime Operatives recovered five bullet shells there. A CCTV footage also shows the suspects escaping.

“Still nagsasagawa pa tayo ng imbestigasyon sa insidente. As of now, hindi pa kami makapagbibigay but now we are establishing the motives, ano anggulo,”

Villanueva was known as a berdugo or executioner due to his campaign against the NPA. It was March 2010 when Villanueva became the provincial director of Bulacan police.

He was removed from his position in 2011 due to huge crimes in the province, among them included a case involving a car theft syndicate of Raymond Dominguez.

Based on the report, the ex-chief denied claims that he was involved in the said case.

Villanueva also served as a provincial warden and retired from PNP in 2015.
