PAGASA – Ofel To Bring Moderate To Heavy Rains This October 14, 2020

PAGASA – Here are the following latest updates from the state weather bureau PAGASA, on this day, October 14, 2020 (Wednesday).

The state weather bureau says in the 2 AM bulletin that Tropical Depression Ofel continues to move northwestward and is approaching the coastal waters of eastern Samar.

According to GMA News, Ofel will make landfall over eastern Samar and cross the Samar island on this day morning before emerging over the Samar Sea at around noontime.

Ofel will then move west-northwestward over the inland seas of Southern Luzon and may pass over or close Masbate, Romblon, and Mindoro Provinces. It is expected to emerge over theWest Philippine Sea on Thursday morning and leave the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) by Friday afternoon.

Ofel will remain a tropical depression while crossing the Samar Island to southern Luzon area. Weather disturbance is expected as it crosses Mindoro island and the tropical depression is forecast to intensify into a tropical storm.

Based on the report, Bicol Region, northern Samar, eastern Samar, Samar, southern Quezon, Marinduque, and Romblon will face moderate to heavy rains due to Ofel.

Metro Manila, Mindoro Provinces, and the rest of Visayas and CALABARZON, meanwhile, will face light to moderate with at times heavy rains.

The bureau warned that there may be flooding and rain-induced landslides during heavy or prolonged rainfall especially in areas that are highly or very highly susceptible to these hazards.

The bureau’s Regional Services Divisions may issue local thunderstorm/rainfall advisories and heavy rainfall warnings as appropriate.

There will be strong- to near gale-force winds that will be experienced in areas under TCWS No. 1 during the passage of the tropical depression. These winds may cause very light damage to structures and vegetation, at most.

Meanwhile, occasional gusts that are associated with the northeasterly surface windflow that is being enhanced by Ofel and Tropical Storm Nangka may be experienced over Batanes, the northern and eastern portions of Cagayan (including Babuyan Islands), the northern portions of Apayao, Ilocos Norte, and Quezon, the eastern portion of Isabela, and Aurora.

Moderate to rough seas will be faced over the seaboards of Luzon and Eastern Visayas in the next 24 hours. especially to those under TCWS No.1.

Tropical Depression Ofel was estimated at 30 kilometers east northeast of Borongan City, Eastern Samar. It is packed with maximum sustained winds of 45 kilometers per hour near the center and gusts of up to 55 kilometers per hour. It is moving northwestward at the speed of 10 kilometers per hour.
