UP Experts Note Coronavirus Cases In Philippines Dropping

PHILIPPINES CORONAVIRUS CASES DROPPING – Following seven months into the strictest lockdown in the world, the Philippines finally sees a drop in cases.

Although the Philippines continues to record new coronavirus cases, the OCTA research team from UP noted a declining trend in the virus’ reproductive rate. Furthermore, this trend wasn’t just seen in a particular area, but throughout the Philippines and in Metro Manila, the virus’ epicenter.

Previously, Metro Manila had on average, around 2,500 coronavirus cases per day. However, it has decreased to less than 1,000 in the province. As such, researchers from OCTA highlighted how the situation in NCR has improved. Moreover, the positivity rate, number of cases, and transmission rate were all seeing a decline.

Still, the Philippines has a long way to go in terms of containing the outbreak. Knowing this, the researchers urged the national and local governments to continue monitoring and enforcing health protocols, especially social distancing.

Along with this, the public should also adhere to the minimum health standards such as wearing face mask and shields, and proper hygiene even at a community level. Meanwhile, as the economy begins to reopen, the researchers urged the private sector to complement the efforts of the government.

This includes promoting health safety, providing necessary testing, and facilitating of contact tracing in the workplace. According to an article from Philstar, the researchers from OCTA said:

The cooperation of the business establishments will significantly reduce the risk of workplace transmission while jump-starting economic recovery

Currently, the Philippines has reported 331,869 cases of COVID-19. Meanwhile, 274,318 patients have recovered from the deadly new virus. Sadly, the number of coronavirus related deaths have also increased to 6,069.
