Isko Bans Daytime Karaoke In Manila Following Complaints
ISKO BANS KARAOKE IN MANILA – Manila Mayor Isko Moreno has banned daytime karaoke in Manila following several noise complaints.
According to the city government, among those who complained were from households with students having online classes. As such, Ordinance No. 8688 was established, imposing a ban from 7:00 AM until 5:00 PM from Monday to Saturday.
Along with Karaoke, other “sound-producing devices” are also prohibited during this period. This may include large speakers, sound systems, electronic instruments, drums, and the like.

On Monday, October 5, public schools across the Philippines have begun School Year 2020-2021. As such, thousands of students nationwide have begun their shift towards blended learning and online classes.
Meanwhile, first-time offenders of the ordinance would be fined P1,000 with second-time offenders being fined P2,000, and the third with P3,000. Furthermore, the Philippine National Police had already mandated all police commanders to coordinate with LGUs to regulate drinking and karaoke sessions in public.
According to Police Lt. Gen. Guillermo Eleazar, violators may face up to a P2,000 fine or render community service. Along with this, a labor group also shared the sentiments of students as people working from home were also affected by the loud noise produced by karaoke.
Alan Tanjusay, spokesperson of the Associated Labor Unions – Trade Union Congress of the Philippines emphasized that the noise from karaoke or videokes could add to the stress of both students and workers amid the coronavirus pandemic.
