As mentioned before, it is the fourth planet of the Solar System. Its namesake is the Roman version of the Greek god of war, Ares due to its reddish and bloody color, while the Egyptians called the planet Her Desher or “the red one”.
The planet is covered by the loose dust which is composed of iron-rich minerals, giving the planed its rusty color, making it red.
Due to its distance to the sun, it is colder than planet Earth, with an averge of -80 degrees Fahrenheit or -60 degrees Celsius. Mars orbits around the Sun every 687 Earth days.
The planet has two moons: Phobos ad Deimos, both made out of carbon-rich rock mixed with ice. They are named after the sons of Ares. Phobos means fear while Deimos means terror.
Atmosphere
The atmosphere is cold and thin, hence, liquid water cannot exist on the surface. At the same time, it is about 100 times thinner than that of Earth, It is also 95% carbon dioxide.

- 95.32% Carbon Dioxide
- 2.7% Nitrogen
- 1.6% Argon
- 0.13% Oxygen
- 0.08% Carbon Monoxide
- Minor amounts of water, nitrogen oxide, neon, hydrogen-deuterium-oxygen, krypton and xenon
