Fire In Barangay Sambag 1, Cebu City Razed Building, Kills Two People

FIRE IN BARANGAY SAMBAG 1 – A fire recently razed an apartment building along J. Alcantara Street in Barangay Sambag 1, Cebu City.

According to Inquirer’s Cebu Daily News, Fire Officer 2 (FO2) Fulbert Navarro cited a report from their initial probe, which says that the fire began on the said building’s second floor.

The victims, identified as retired doctor Glenda Mayol, 80, and her house helper Francisca Fomentera, 71, were trapped inside the second floor that they occupied. They were already dead when brought to a private hospital in the city.

The cause of their deaths were caused by smoke inhalation, Navarro added. The fire caused damages that were worth at about 4.8 million.

The fire was reported at about 11:31 PM on Sunday and was recently raised to second alarm seven minutes later.

The fire was finally put out at around 12:12 AM. Navarro added that the fire also caused minor damages to nearby homes, based on the report.
