Lawmakers Warns Cayetano If He Defies Duterte
CAYETANO DEFIES DUTERTE? – Yesterday, House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano “offered his resignation” to the members of the House of Representatives.
Following this, the members unanimously voted against Cayetano‘s resignation. This leaves the question open if the Speaker does intend to leave his post, especially following his speech, which some allege was a plea to the President and his allies.
However, according to PBA Party-list Rep. Jericho Nograles, resigning from your position is a “personal choice”. Furthermore, he emphasized that it was not “up to the body and not up Congress and the plenary to decide on”.
During ang interview in ANC Headstart, Nograles said:
The effect of that is nothing in our rules. Walang katuturan, ibig sabihin, yung whole thing na nangyari kahapon. The only effect of what happened is the suspension of the deliberation on the 2021 budget
Recently, Cayetano, Velasco, and President Duterte had a meeting. There, Cayetano was told to announce his resignation and the date which he would leave his post.
Following this, both parties agreed to uphold the term-sharing agreement. But, a day after, Cayetano “offered” his resignation. However, his allies proceeded to reject his offer with the plenary voting viva voce.
When asked about this during the interview, Nograles said: “I would suppose the resignation of Speaker Cayetano should push through. Otherwise, if Speaker Cayetano does defy President Duterte as a political leader, simply put, ang gulo nito.”
