Several “Water Bodies” On Mars Discovered Says New Study

Several “Water Bodies” Found Under South Pole Of Mars

WATER BODIES ON MARS – Several liquid bodies were discovered underneath the south pole of Mars according to a new study.

The findings give weight to previous studies stating there could possibly be a large saltwater lake under Mars’s surface. Furthermore, the study also led to the discovery of a number of other wet areas.

With the information given, this gives the scientific community hopes of finding alien life. Moreover, it’s quite known that water is the basic requirement of producing life. Along with this, an article from The Independent said it would be key to “planetary protection”.

This meant that when humans conduct exploration missions in other planets, they can’t contaminate other planets with life from Earth. Still, the scientist need further studies to better examine the Red Planet, its chemistry, and the possibility of life.

The discovery was made using MARSIS (Mars Advanced Radar for Subsurface and Ionosphere Sounding). This technology is boarded on the Mars Express spacecraft launched by the European Space Agency to circle the planet.

As per the article, Professor Elena Pettinelli, the research lead said:

The main lake is surrounded by smaller bodies of liquid water, but because of the technical characteristics of the radar, and of its distance from the Martian surface, we cannot conclusively determine whether they are interconnected

For this reason, they could still retain traces of any life forms that could have evolved when Mars had a dense atmosphere, a milder climate and the presence of liquid water on the surface, similar to the early Earth
