DSWD Extra P10 Billion Unspent From SAP Budget

Lawmakers Told DSWD To Distribute Extra P10 Billion From SAP

DSWD EXTRA P10 BILLION – The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) announced having an excess of around P10 billion from the Social Amelioration Program (SAP).

Since DSWD started to distribute the cash aid from the SAP, a lot of families benefited from the allowance. However, there were always complaints from hundreds of families that didn’t receive their share of the benefits.

As such, lawmakers were baffled after DSWD declared the unspent P10 billion as “savings” during the hearing on its proposed budget. Following this, Senators such as Panfilo Lacson called out DSWD to assist thousands of families who were left hungry due to the pandemic.

According to an article from Philstar, the Senator said:

I would have insisted that the DSWD utilize the P10 billion for distribution, instead of prematurely declaring the same as ‘savings’ after it scaled down the number of cash aid beneficiaries by four million households

Furthermore, Lacson said that he sent a letter to Social Welfare Secretary Ronaldo Bautista on behalf of a family listed for cash-aid that had yet to receive their subsidy. However, Lacson stated that he had yet to receive a response even from a clerk of DSWD.

Meanwhile, Senator Risa Hontiveros asserted that the DSWD was unconscionable as they kept the money instead of distributing it to the poor. As per the article, she said “It is unconscionable that you have the money, but kept it, instead of giving it to those in need”.

Additionally, Bong Go also reminded DSWD of its obligation to prioritize the delivery of government social services to Filipinos in need.
