CONTACT TRACERS START WORK – As part of the government’s response to the coronavirus outbreak in the Philippines, several contact tracers were hired.

According to previous reports, the government planned to hire around 50,000 contact tracers. Along with this, those who had a background in medicine and criminology would be prioritized for the post.

Furthermore, the salary for the contact tracers would be P18,000, equivalent to a salary grade 9. Meanwhile, an article from GMA reported that Interior Secretary Eduardo Año announced when the contact tracers would begin their work.

Ang target natin is October 1 mag-start na sila ng work nila. Tamang-tama naman na ‘yun din ‘yung period na mare-release ‘yung budget sa atin.

He added that they are finalizing the recruitment process and the applicant’s requirements to begin working. However, today is the final day for applications for those who want to become contact tracers.

Año also emphasized that the bulk of these contact tracers would be deployed in Metro Manila, especially in Quezon city, one of the COVID-19 hotspots in the Philippines. As per the article, he said:

Mas marami tayong ilalagay sa lugar na nangangailangan at mayroon pa rin namang maiiwan doon sa low active cases para sigurado din naman na tuloy-tuloy ‘yung pagcontact tracing

Along with this, TESDA also announced that they would be conducting free Contact tracing programs to assist the government’s COVID-19 response. Moreover, the program would be open to anybody who wanted to enroll as long as they’re above 21 years old and no more than 59 and had graduated high school.
