PTV Hopes To Compete In Ratings With ABS-CBN Out Of The Picture

PTV Hopes To Compete In Ratings Says Andanar

PTV HOPES TO COMPETE IN RATINGS – During the House hearing on the Presidential Communications Operations Office, Secretary Martin Andanar revealed he wants to compete in ratings with the remaining networks.

It’s been a couple of months since ABS-CBN’s franchise was declined. Since then, there had been a huge gap in the Philippines’ television space with ABS-CBN being the biggest media company in the country.

Now, with ABS-CBN out of the picture, the question is, who is going to take its spot as number 1? According to Andanar, the state-owned People’s Television Network (PTV) would like to be in the running for that spot.

During the House Hearing, House committee on appropriations chairperson Rep. Eric Yap asked Andanar if PTV would compete with bigger networks such as GMA now that ABS-CBN was out.

Ngayong wala na ang ABS-CBN, mayroon ba tayong pangarap, may goals ba tayo sa PTV-4 na maging isang kalaban ng GMA, makapagcompete tayo sa kanila?

According to an article from Inquirer, Andanar firmly answered:

Yes, we have a plan to at least be able to compete as far as ratings are concerned.

Additionally, he emphasized that even if PTV is a government-owned corporation, it still has to make its own revenue from advertisers. Furthermore, he said that PTV had “beefed up” its news content throughout the day.

Meanwhile, Yap questioned several allegations of poor working conditions in PTV. Moreover, he also cited that Andanar, who was in charge of PTV, was merely a production assistant with no “managerial experience”.

Ang gobyerno ngayon, natutulungan pa ‘yung employado nila. Ang sa akin, bakit natin hahayaan na yung mga cameraman P17,000 lang ang sahod tapos kulang sa PPE, kulang sa gamit?, Yap asked.

As a response, Andanar said they have been working on addressing the issues within PTV. As per the article, the PCOO requested P1.59 billion as its budget for 2021. However, the hearing was suspended as lawmakers lambasted the red-tagging activities of one of PCOO’s officials.
