AWOL Policeman Dead In Cebu City On Thursday Morning

AWOL POLICEMAN – A policeman who went AWOL (absent without official leave) was killed by four unknown assailiants in Cebu City.

The incident occurred at past 10 AM on Thursday, September 10, in Barangay Tisa, Cebu City. The cop was identified as Ruben Quita, according to an article from Inquirer.

Quita received several bullet wounds on different parts of his body.
The victim’s son, Gavin Rheuben Quita, who was with the former during the ambush, also suffered gunshot wounds and is in critical condition in a hospital.

Labangon Police Station chief Police Capt. Jonathan dela Cerna said that the victim was with his son and two others onboard a Toyota Revo when the four suspects who rode two motorcycles stop tje victim’s car and shot him several times.

“They (the suspects) were using rifles. Their target was Quita but since his son was sitting beside him in the front seat, the son was also hit,”


Based on the report, Quita was assigned in Mindanao prior to the ambush, Dela Cerna added. The latter said that probe is to be conducted to identify the motive behind the ambush.

“We have yet to identify the reason behind the ambush,”

In a separate report regarding policemen, police from President Roxas town in Capiz reported that a rebel from the New People’s Army (NPA) surrendered voluntarily to them.

The rebel brought a hand explosive when he surrendered to authorities in the said municipality.
