Malacañang Confirms Pres. Duterte Called Resigned Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe

MALACAÑANG – The Palace spoke on the conversation of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe over the phone.

Several national leaders do not just connect with each other for businesses but because they have built friendship in the ground of serving their countries.

With regard to Philippine Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte, one of the other national leaders in which he visibly has a good relationship is the resigned prime minister of Japan, Shinzo Abe.

It was in the last week of August when Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe spoke about his decision to leave his post. The reason behind is his health – he is suffering from “ulcerative colitis” based on a report on ABS-CBN News.

As to the Prime Minister, he is no longer fit to lead Japan. Following the announcement of the Japanese Prime Minister, Pres. Duterte made a phone call to him.

According to the report, Malacañang expressed that Pres. Duterte relayed his “best wishes for Prime Minister Abe’s speedy and full recovery”. Also, he expressed his gratitude over the Prime Minister’s contribution on strengthening the ties between PH and Japan.

Reportedly, Japanese Prime Minister Abe assured Pres. Duterte of the commitment of his country to strengthen its ties with PH. Malacañang said that the two countries got ties that is “friends closer than brothers”.

The Japanese Prime Minister is one of the foreign national leaders that have visited the Philippines in his term. In fact, during his visit to the country, he went to Davao City where Pres. Duterte lives.

The President has served Davao for more than two decades before he won the top post in the national government last 2016. That is why he prefers being called as “Mayor”.
