CEBU GOV SUSPENDS DOLOMITE TRANSPORT – Amid the controversies regarding the artificial white sand, Cebu City Governor Gwen Garcia suspends the sale and transport of dolomite to Manila Bay.

Recently, the issue regarding the artificial white sand in Manila Bay went viral on social media. Amid the coronavirus pandemic, the DENR along with the DILG decided to push for the rehabilitation of Manila Bay by spreading artificial white sand along Manila Bay.

As such, the project was heavily criticized by several environmental groups. Yet, the government asserted that the White Sand would be a benefit for the public’s mental health.

Meanwhile, Cebu officials have voiced concerns that they were left “in the dark” regarding the national government’s plan to procure dolomite for Manila Bay’s beautification.

According to an article from ABS-CBN, Provincial Board Member John Ismael Borgonia, chairman of the committee on environment conservation and natural resources said they didn’t even know a permit was given for the transportation of dolomite to Manila.
