Malacañang Distances From Controversial Marcos Day
MALACAÑANG DISTANCES FROM MARCOS DAY – Amid the coronavirus pandemic, lawmakers passed a bill declaring September 11 as a special non-working holiday in celebration of Ferdinand Marcos.
This garnered negative reactions from critics but at the same time, gained massive support from Marcos supporters. However, when asked about this, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said the palace distances itself from the controversial “Marcos Day”.

According to an article from ABS-CBN, the spokesperson said:
Rerespetuhin ng Presidente kung ano ang maging desisyon ng policymakers sa Kongreso..
Yesterday, the House of Representatives approved the final reading of the proposed holiday. As per the article, Ilocos Norte Rep. Angelo Marcos Barba, Marcos’ nephew, said the holiday would be a salute to “a brilliant man whose vision for the country remains unparalleled”.
However, critics emphasized that the holiday was divisive and insensitive to the families severely affected during Marcos’ Martial Law. But, on the contrary, supporters argued that the celebration of Marcos’ birth would dawn a new era for a more prosperous Philippines, one that the late dictator envisioned.
