Emergency Powers To Fix PhilHealth Good Idea Says Duterte Allies

Duterte Allies Suggest Giving President Emergency Powers To Fix PhilHealth

EMERGENCY POWERS – Allies of President Rodrigo Duterte in the House of Representatives highly suggest giving the President emergency powers to fix the issues within PhilHealth.

Recently, PhilHealth has been on the hot seat after several officials reveal alleged anomalies within the state-run health insurance firm. Since then, some of PhilHealth’s highest ranking officials have resigned from their post just as the investigations were underway.

As such, the chair of the House public accounts committee said they had floated the idea of granting special powers to Duterte to address the issues. However, according to a report from Inquirer, the House Chair did not specify the scope and limitations of the proposed emergency powers.

Anakalusugan Rep. Michael Defensor stated:

The committee is inclined [to give the President emergency powers] and we are already discussing the emergency powers to be granted to the President

Meanwhile, Health Secretary Francisco Duterte III, PhilHealth’s current chair supported the proposal. He added that it would help Duterte make reforms in PhilHealth. Furthermore, the Health Secretary said that giving Duterte emergency powers would be a “Good Idea”.

As per the report, when asked about former NBI Chief Dante Gierran’s new post as PhilHealth CEO, Duque said that it was a testament to Duterte’s will to clean-up the health insurance firm.

So I think the President is serious and the people accept how serious he is in cleaning up the ranks of PhilHealth so that the universal health care law that we pushed would be implemented and Filipinos would get free medicine and health care.
