Used Test Kits Dumped In Streets Of Sampaloc, Causing Concern From Residents
USED TEST KITS DUMPED IN STREETS – A concerning scene transpired in the streets of Sampaloc, Manila at around 9:00 pm on Tuesday involving used test kits.
As the Philippines gears up for mass testings for COVID-19, rapid test kits were used to identify potential coronavirus patients. However, the problem now lies with the disposal of these test kits.
Apparently, somebody was dumping these used test kits just in the streets of Sampaloc on Tuesday night. According to a report from ABS-CBN, there was a person riding a bicycle with a sidecar.
Based on the CCTV footage captured on Dela Fuente Street, the sidecar of the bicycle carried a garbage bag. As he passed by the streets, some of the garbage fell out of the bag. Residents thought they were pregnancy test kits. However, they were shocked to find out that there were names attached to the items.
Alerted and concerned, the residents reported the incident to the local authorities. Afterward, the SK Chairman of Barangay 452, Karl Gonza, confirmed that the items were in fact, used test kits.
As per the report, the used kits have been scattered from Trabaho Market all the way to España Boulevard. Now, residents are concerned about the possibility of one of these kits being positive for COVID-19.
Due to the incident, Manila Mayor Isko Moreno asserted that the establishment at fault for the improper disposal of the test kits would face severe consequences. Along with this, local authorities have planned to disinfect the area following the incident.
