Duterte Plans To Create 200,000 Jobs With 1 Trillion Infra Budget

BUILD BUILD BUILD – President Rodrigo Duterte plans to create over 200,000 construction jobs with a proposed budget of P1 trillion for the “Build Build Build” program.

Due to the effects of COVID-19, several working-class Filipinos were left jobless as major provinces went into lockdown. As such, the push for the government’s infrastructure program planned to create jobs to help those in construction gain back footing amid the pandemic.

According to an article from ABS-CBN, some 140,000 to 220,000 jobs could be created by Build Build Build. Additionally, the program would also shift toward projects that assist health and essential services, transport, and overall mobility of the public.

During his 2021 budget message, President Duterte said:

Because of its high multiplier effect on economic growth and output, infrastructure development is indispensable in reviving the Philippine economy during and after the COVID-19 pandemic

As per the report, the Duterte administration proposed a P1.107 trillion budget for Build Build Build for the next year amounting to 5.4% of the Philippines’ Gross Domestic Product.
