Pacquiao, Gatchalian Nominated Ramon Revilla Sr. As National Artist For Film
RAMON REVILLA SR. NOMINATED – Two senators filed resolutions nominating the late Senator and film icon, Ramon Revilla Senior as National Artist for Film.
Revilla had an extensive 52 years in the film industry with his first film “Ulila ng Bataan” released way back 1952. Meanwhile, according to Senator Manny Pacquiao, “Revilla Sr. is an embodiment of talent, intelligence, artistry that makes him befitting of the title of National Artist”.
The fighting-Senator added “Through the years, he has contributed immensely in the development of Philippine art [and] his movies depicted not only the Filipino way of life, but also our unique culture and strong ideals”.

Along with this, Senator Sherwin Gatchalian also shared similar sentiments with Pacquiao with his Senate Resolution No. 482 which said the late Revilla Sr. “should not go unrecognized”.
“He is a genuine gem who has contributed much to the proliferation and appreciation of the arts in our country”, added Gatchalian.
Revilla Senior appeared in about 80 films during his lifetime with his last film released in 2005. Afterward, the actor focused on politics.
According to an article from ABS-CBN, among those in showbusiness who were honored as National Artists for Film are directors Lino Brocka, and Ishmael Bernál, and Philippine action movie king Fernando Poe Jr.
Revilla died this year on June 26, 2020 of a heart failure. Meanwhile, his son, Senator Ramon Bong Revilla Jr., is currently battling against COVID-19.
