PH To Flatten Curve By September? UP Experts Says It’s Possible

Will PH Flatten Curve By September?

PH TO FLATTEN CURVE – After nearly 7 months of the strictest quarantine in the world, the Philippines may flatten the coronavirus curve by September.

According to experts from the University of the Philippines, the country may flatten the spread of COVID-19 by September or at the end of August. Dr. Guido David of the UP OCTA Research team explained that the virus’ reproduction rate lowered to 1.1 from 1.5 following Metro Manila and 4 nearby provinces’ “Time Out“.

When a virus has a reproduction rate of one and above, it would continue to spread. However, if the number is below that, the virus would eventually die down. Based on an article from ABS-CBN, David said:

Sa ngayon umaasa tayong kaya pa rin iyan, katapusan ng August ma-flatten ang curve, or puwedeng kahit September siguro mangyari iyan

However, David emphasized that flattening the curve doesn’t mean the country has won against the virus. He asserted that Filipinos need continuous effort or else the virus may have another surge.

As per the article, David’s research team UP OCTA Research Group was finalizing their report on coronavirus hotspots to be presented to the government.

Meanwhile, following weeks of COVID-19 infection spikes, the Philippines recorded its lowest number of cases on Sunday with 2,378 infections. With this, the total number of cases in the Philippines went up to 189,601. Of that number 55,236 were active cases.

Currently, there are more than 23,577,600 cases of COVID-19 around the world. Additionally, the number of deaths due to the virus has reached more than 812,181.
