Bicycle Rider Dies In Imus Road, Cebu City On Friday Night
IMUS ROAD – A bicycle rider recently died in an accident involving a delivery van along Imus Road in Barangay Lorega San Miguel, Cebu City.
According to Inquirer, Police Corporal Apolinar Villafuerte of Waterfront Police Station identified the fatality as Arman Blancaver, aged 38 and a resident of Barangay Tejero, Cebu City.
Initial probe shows that Blancaver was riding his bike along the said road when a delivery van that was driven by Renante Fernandez Aranquis, aged 35 and resident of Barangay Quiot Pardo.
Villafuerte reported that the van slowed down to make a turn heading to Barangay Mabolo. As the van made the turn, unaware that the bicycle rider had reached the left side of his vehicle, the former hit Blancaver.
Blancaver and his vehicle slammed at the left side of the van, throwing him off his bike and slamming on the front side of the van before landing hard on the road. He eventually hit his head causing his death.
Vilafuerte noted that he was not wearing complete gear that should have protected its head.
“Wala man siyay completo nga gears kung nag helmet siya basi di ma grabehan iyang ulo,”
Blancaver was pronounced dead on the spot by the responding team.
Working as a crane operator, Blancaver was on his way to buy food for dinner while Aranquis was heading back to the warehouse before heading home.
Based on the report, Villafuerte urged motorists and bikers and those on the road at night to be more cautious and wear complete gear.
