WHAT ARE COLLOQUIAL WORDS – These words could be described similar to slang or words used to describe informal conversation.
Here are some examples:
- Ballpark – used to describe something close or accurate.
- Can you give me a ballpark of the price?
- Cattywampus – a crooked thing
- Her nail looks like a cattywampus and I do not want to go near it at all.
- Flake – a person who cancels plans regularly or the act of regularly canceling plans
- Peter is such a flake, it’s been the 2nd canceled plan this week.
- Raincheck – a promise to reschedule plans that had to be canceled
- I’m going to need to do a raincheck on our dinner tonight. Something came up.
- Ride shotgun – to sit in the front passenger seat of a car
- I always ride shotgun when I was a kid and my dad was driving me to school.

Colloquial words differ on the language you are using and the culture of the certain community. For example, the Philippines have its own called “KOLOKYAL“. Here are some examples:
