DepEd Class Postponement: Regional Heads To Be Consulted

DepEd To Consult Regional Head Regarding Class Postponement Amid COVID-19 Crisis

DepEd CLASS POSTPONEMENT – The Department of Education said it might talk with regional director heads regarding the proposed class suspensions of the school year opening.

According to a report from ABS-CBN, DepEd Regional heads earlier said that preparations for the class opening on August 24 were “on time”. Afterward, the regional heads would conduct another meeting on Friday with the main topic being the moving of class openings.

Meanwhile, Education Undersecretary for Curriculum and Instructions Diosdado San Antonio said Education Secretary Liling Briones was open for collaborations and decision making. As per the report, San Antonio said:

It would depend on the assessment of the whole team. Secretary Liling [Briones] is very consultative and collaborative in coming up with decisions.

I think she will once again ask our regional directors about their views on the state of readiness

Furthermore, there were concerns with the modules not being ready for the opening of classes on August 24. However, Antonio said that as of Aug. 10, more than half of the modules were ready. Along with this, DepEd was also reviewing protocols in delivering lessons through the use of TV and radio.

Additionally, Antonio said that the first week of classes would spend orienting the students to the changes with the new online learning system. Along with this, Antonio emphasized that this would be the perfect time to teach honesty to students.

While we say that the parents should extend support, the parents should not be the one to prepare the tasks or the assignments, the Education Undersecretary said.
