Duterte Expected To Announce A New Community Quarantine Classification

NEW COMMUNITY QUARANTINE – President Rodrigo Duterte is expected to announce a new community quarantine classification next week.

Currently, there are three major community quarantine classification – Enhanced, Modified, and General. But, as Metro Manila is about to end its 14-day “time out”, Duterte said he would announce a new classification.

According to an article from ABS-CBN, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said Duterte is expected to make the announcement on August 17, the day before the lockdown ends.

Furthermore, Roque previously said that the government is highly unlikely to keep the Metro and neighboring provinces under a MECQ beyond August 18. This was due to the government lacking funds to maintain the lockdown.

Currently, the Philippines holds first place as the country with the most COVID-19 cases in South East Asia. As of Wednesday, the country reported 143,749 cases of COVID-19. Of that number, 72,348 are active cases while 2,404 individuals have died due to the deadly disease.
