Argao Town Barangay Officials Arrested For “Tigbakay”
ARGAO TOWN – Two officials in Barangay Canbanua, Argao town, Cebu, were arrested for violating PD 449, known as the illegal cockfighting law.
According to Inquirer’s Cebu Daily News, the officials were caught participating in “tigbakay” or illegal cockfighting activity in Cebuano on Thursday afternoon, August 6, 2020.
The arrested were identified as Barangay Canbanua Councilor Edilor Subrecary Salomere, aged 58 and son Jimster Bajenting Salomere, aged 34, They were caught with Nikki Romanillos Yting, aged 50; Angelo Abella Bajo, aged 32; and Ruel Escalante, aged 54.
This happened after the cops responded to a call about the illegal activity in the area.
Police Corporal Apolinar Albiso Jr., of Argao Police station said that there were still others who were able to run when cops arrived in the area, among them were identified as Lemuel Cañete of Barangay Poblacion, Carlo Quintanar of Barangay Poblacion, and Richard Sarsaba from Barangay Canbanua.
Albiso added that the three will also face similar charges with the arrested five.
Based on the report, the five suspects are currently being detained at the Argao Police Station and will face charges for the said violation.
