Journalist Tells Duterte To “Grow Up” After His Statement To Frontliners
“GROW UP” – Journalist Mara Cepeda on her social media, said President Rodrigo Duterte had a small ego and needed to “grow up”.
Recently, medical professionals pleaded to the government to bring back the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) as coronavirus cases explode in Metro Manila. As a response, Duterte slammed the medical workers and said they shouldn’t have made their plea public.
Following this, Cepeda took to social media and shared her thoughts on Duterte’s statements. In her official Twitter page, Cepeda said:
Duterte’s ego is so small that he would threaten our medical frontliners just because they told him our healthcare system is on the brink of collapse. Mr. President, they spoke up not to spite you, but to HELP YOU address this pandemic. Grow up.
Based on a previous article, Duterte said that instead of helping, all medical professionals did was complain:
We are not competent here because we are not doctors. Kayo ang dapat ang mag-ano… Kayong makatulong sana at wala kayong ginagawa kung magreklamo, what can I do
According to Duterte, by making their demands public, they were demeaning the government. He even taunted the doctors to stage a revolution against him.
However, several netizens cited that the medical community merely wanted to help the government with their COVID-19 response. Here are some of the comments from netizens regarding the issue:
Currently, the Philippines holds the record for the highest number of COVID-19 cases in Asia. Yesterday, the country recorded an all-time high 5,000 cases of COVID-19, resulting to over a total of 100,000 cases.
