SolGen Jose Calida Now 2nd Highest-Paid Official in Duterte Administration
SOLGEN JOSE CALIDA – Solicitor General Jose Calida is now the second-highest-paid government official.
Solicitor General Jose Calida was the one who filed the quo warranto petition against the ABS-CBN network. He accused the tv network of allowing foreigners to take part in the ownership of the media company.
He also claimed that the company launched illegal pay-per-view platforms such as KBO Channel and TV Plus subscription. In a previous article, he said the line “the end is near” during the House hearing of the media network’s franchise.
Jose Calida hailed the House panel that voted to kill ABS-CBN’s franchise application. He said, “Congress has ascertained that ABS-CBN is unworthy of a legislative franchise, and its decision must be accorded respect. Congress has done its duty under the Constitution, and by its action, the rule of law has been upheld.”
Based on a report from Rappler, SolGen Jose Calida is now the second-highest-paid government official. Commission on Audit (COA)’s 2019 report showed that he earned P16.9 million from 2019.
He is the first solicitor general to get to the top ten government earners. The list is usually occupied by workers from the banking and financial sectors. In 2017 he was top four, in 2018, he was top six.
According to the report, the top earner is former United Coconut Planter Bank (UICPB) president Higinio O. Macadaeg Jr. He resigned last July.
