Bestfriends Split Lotto Winning: “A Handshake’s A Handshake”

BESTFRIENDS SPLIT LOTTO WINNING – People say promises are always meant to be broken, however, this isn’t the case for Thomas Cook and Joseph Feeney.

Back in 1992, the two best friends shook hands and made a promise that would come to fruition 28 years later. Both Thomas and Joseph promised that if either one would win the Powerball jackpot, they would split the winnings with each other.

In June, the stars finally aligned for Cook who bought the winning ticket for a whopping $22 million jackpot at a gas station in Menomonie. According to an article from NBC, cook said:

It was quite an experience. When I read the first two or three numbers, I kind of froze. Cook said he was eating breakfast at the time. After reading the ticket numbers, he passed it to his was who also “froze”.

Realizing he won, Cook immediately called his friend. Meanwhile, when Feeney learned the news, he thought Cook was joking. As per the article, he said that he and Cook would buy lotto tickets every week. But, never in his life did he think that they could actually win.

When Cook was asked about the promise, he said “A handshake’s a handshake, man”.

According to the Winconsin Lottery press release, Cook opted for the cash option of $16.7 million. Cook and Feeney would then take home around $5.7 million each after taxes.

We can pursue what we feel comfortable with.

I can’t think of a better way to retire.

Cook said he would use the money to spend more time with his family and to travel. Both said they wouldn’t do anything extravagant with their newly acquired sum of wealth.
