According to ABS-CBN’s PUSH, more than three years ago, senator Francis Tolentino, who at that time was a Metro Manila Development Authority chairman, filed a libel case against ABS-CBN’s Ted Failon.

This was because of a 2016 episode of the latter’s show “Failon Ngayon”, which featured a commentary on MMDA’s purchase of second-hand motorcycles for the papal visit and the Asia-Pacific Economic Conference in 2015.

Last July 16, the Court of Appeals ruled that the information against the newscaster and others was incomplete and the allegations were insufficient to continue prosecution.

“The decision speaks of free press rights. Ito ay tagumpay para sa lahat ng mamamahayag. Salamat sa mga kapamilya sa ABS-CBN na katulong natin sa pagtatanggol sa kasong ito. This is a bright spot during these dark days,”

Ted Failon’s career with ABS-CBN began with Hoy Gising! which ran from 1992 up until 2001/ On radio, Failon’s programs include Radyo Patrol Balita Alas-Siyete with fellow news reporter Noli De Castro, as well as Failon Ngayon sa Teleradyo.

He also hosts his decade-long investigative program Failon Ngayon. The said program has been suspended ever since the network complied to the cease and desist order last May 5.

Based on the report, Ted’s career in politics lasted from 2001 to 2004 where he was the representative of the first district of Leyte.
