The Sagada trip of A-list actor Piolo Pascual with director Joyce Bernal went controversial as it was intended for the State of the Nation Address of President Rodrigo Duterte.

Reportedly, Direk Joyce with Piolo, and the rest of the production staff were there to shoot a video that is needed for the SONA 2020 of the Chief Executive to be held on July 27.

However, based on reports, they were declined by the local government of Sagada to shoot due to health protocols even though they had an authorization letter from Malacanang.

With this, many netizens criticized Piolo for his “support” for the administration while his home network ABS-CBN is struggling to get a franchise.

In line with the speculations regarding what happened to their Sagada trip, Piolo Pascual broke his silence. In his recent Instagram post, the A-list actor said that it saddened him that people judged him for what happened.

He stressed that his loyalty has been with ABS-CBN ever since he started his career in showbiz. “I haven’t met the President personally and I don’t do politics as some may know,” he added.

Piolo also explained that the shoot was for Direk Joyce to show that change that has happened to the environment due to the lockdown. “This isn’t about the President,” he reiterated.

The Kapamilya star also said that their trip went through a process. They asked permission and clearances from authority. He said that they sent a letter to the Mayor of Sagada and the latter gave them a go signal verbally. However, the Sangguniang Bayan invited Direk Joyce to explain that they were not allowed to stay there, thus the authority from the Mayor was vetoed.

However, Piolo Pascual said that they perfectly understood that the health and safety of the people were the main concerns. The same situation happened with they went to Banaue.

In his statement, the actor also stressed that his association with Direk Joyce has nothing to do with his political stand.

“There’s not a day that I didn’t pray for ABS-CBN. I love my job and I love this nation, so please stop hating and judging as the world is already at the brink of losing hope,” Piolo said.
