The Philippine Coast Guard filed a case against the captain and officials of the said ship for reckless imprudence resulting to multiple homicide and damage to property.

Based on the report, The PCG filed the said case on the prosecutor’s office in Mamburao town, Occidental Mindoro.

It has been remembered that the ship, which is a Hong Kong-flagged cargo vessel, crashed with the fishing vessel, identified as FV Liberty 5.

FV Liberty 5 carried 12 fishermen and two passengers and was about to head on its way back to Navotas fish port, while the Hong Kong ship was about to head toward Australia from Subic, Zambales when the incident happened. This eventually ended up with 14 Filipinos missing.

The captain called for help “a few hours later”. However, when the Philippine Coast Guard arrived on the scene, only tubs of fish were found in the area.

The owner of the cargo apologized. President Rodrigo Duterte then said that the incident was a “little maritime accident”.
