EL NIDO REOPENING – The opening of El Nido and two other areas in Palawan was recently eyed by the Philippine government.

This is in order to restore domestic tourism in the said areas after the industry was put to a halt due to the three areas in Palawan, months after the sector was brought to a standstill due to the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, according to ABS-CBN News.
Department of Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat said that she has currently consulting with local executives from El Nido, Coron, and San Vicente.
The executives reported that the losses in revenue in tourism amount to P3.1 billion due to COVID-19. 14,000 workers in the industry were also greatly affected by the pandemic.
Puyat said that they will aim for a slow but sure restart in Palawan tourism.
“We want to restart tourism in Palawan but we want it slow but sure. Talks underway for limited domestic tourism and a ‘dry run’ in El Nido resorts, Coron and San Vicente open to restarting tourism but LGU will still consult w/ constituents first,”
Based on the report, Palawan Governor Jose Alvarez said that while the move has been necessary, “mass tourism” will be prohibited once things have been finalized.
This was after Boracay was opened to residents of Western Visayas last June 16 as most parts shifted to looser lockdown protocols in an attempt to restart the economy.
