Hontiveros Calls For ‘Extensive Reform’ After PNP Shoot 4 Military in Jolo, Sulu

HONTIVEROS – Sen. Risa Hontiveros called for “extensive reform” after cops shoot four (4) solders in Jolo, Sulu.

Four soldiers were fatally shot by policemen in Jolo Sulu on Monday, June 29. The cops and the military have different versions of the incident so the commanding general of the Western Mindanao Command, Gen. Cirilito Sobejana, asked the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to investigate what happened.

In a previous article, opposition Senator Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan called for a Senate investigation in the incident on Wednesday, July 2. He’s worried that it might happen to ordinary citizens.

Recently, Vice President Leni Robredo visited the wake of the slain soldiers in Jolo, Sulu. She also uploaded several photos during her visit.

On Thursday, July 2, Senator Risa Hontiveros filed a resolution calling on the Senate to launch a probe that will help the legislation in response to the death of the four soldiers. She said her resolution “aims to institutionalize measures against the excessive use of force and violence within the police force.”

A copy of the resolution was uploaded on her Twitter page. It came with a caption, “The PNP has a lot to do to live up to its motto to ‘serve & protect.’ I filed Reso No. 460 calling for an investigation into the killing of 4 AFP soldiers by PNP in Sulu.

“We hope to institutionalize measures against the excessive use of force & violence w/in the police force,” she added.
