Four Military Gunned Down By Cops In Jolo, Sulu

MILITARY – Four soldiers gunned down by cops in Jolo, Sulu. Military asked the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to probe their death.

The Isle of Jolo is located in the southwestern part of the Philippines. The island has long been troubled by the presence of the country’s terror group Abu Sayyaf.

There is a terrible incident that happened in the southern province of Sulu on Monday, June 29. Based on a report from ABS-CBN, four (4) soldiers who were not wearing their uniform and were on board a Montero SUV when stopped by cops at a checkpoint at Marina Street, Jolo Town 2:20 pm.

According to the report, six (6) cops flagged down the soldiers at the checkpoint. The police earlier said that the soldiers allegedly pointed guns at them which prompted the clash.

The commander of the military’s Western Mindanao Command, Lt. Gen Cirilito Sobejana, said those soldiers were on an “official function” linked to terrorism.  He said he asked the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to investigate because there are different versions of the incident.

“Dahil sa may iba’t ibang bersyon, nag-request po ako ng National Bureau of Investigation dito sa Region 9 na magsagawa ng kaukulang imbestigasyon… Kailangan independent o third-party para po ma-uphold natin ang impartiality,” he said.

Based on the report, Lt. Gen Cirilito Sobejana said the slain soldiers had ranks of captain, major, corporal, and sergeant. He declined to give further details.
