Over 12K OFWs Set For Deployment In Hong Kong Amid Pandemic

12K OFWs SET FOR HONG KONG – Despite the ongoing global pandemic, over 12 thousand Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) are to be deployed to Hong Kong.

According to a televised announcement, Consul General Raly Tejada stated that a total of 12,662 OFWs are bound for Hong Kong this summer. Previously, thousands of OFWs have been sent home in the advent of the coronavirus pandemic.

Of this number, 4,775 were workers that were previously terminated who had found new jobs. Meanwhile, 7,907 of them were new hires.

Despite the increased number of COVID-19 cases in the Philippines, thousands of OFWs would still be deployed. Moreover, Hong Kong expressed worry regarding where they would house the OFWs for the mandatory 14-day quarantine.

Ang mga employer po at mga agency na nagpadala po rito ng employees ay siya po ang may number one na may responsibilidad po na maglagay sa kanila sa quarantine centers, maging hotel man o sa mga pasilidad na tumatanggap ng quarantine

Furthermore, the consul general also said that 200 stranded Filipinos are to be flown back to their country. Additionally, 250 Filipinos were also expected to return over the next days.
