Cop, 3 Others Arrested For Cockfighting Amid Quarantine

COP ARRESTED FOR COCKFIGHTING – To say that the Filipinos love cockfighting is a massive understatement as people continue to risk getting arrested just to gamble on some aggressive chickens.

Members of the anti-scalawag unit of the Philippine National Police (PNP) even arrested a police officer for cockfighting in Cebu City. According to a report from PNA, the cop was identified as PNP Staff Sgt. Charlito Tinoy.

The Staff Sgt. was arrested for illegal gambling on an illegal cockfighting game in Sudlon, Lahug, Cebu City on Sunday. Furthermore, Tinoy already had a history of being arrested for illegal gambling.

As per the report, Tinoy stated:

We’re intensifying our monitoring of policemen involved in all forms of illegal activities and assure the public that we will apprehend them as soon as we have built enough evidence against them.

Amid the coronavirus quarantine, gatherings such as cockfighting derbies were made illegal by the authorities. Moreover, illegal cockfighting was especially being monitored by the authorities.

Members of the Integrity Monitoring and Enforcement Group (IMEG), the Regional Special Operations Group Regional Intelligence Division, and the Cebu Police Provincial Office raided the illegal derby taking place in the area.

After the raid, police seized several cockfighting paraphernalia which included cash bets and several fighting cocks. Three civilians were also arrested and taken into police custody for documentation and filing of charges.

There will be no respite in the crackdown against scalawags amid the enhanced community quarantine against Covid-19 (coronavirus disease 2019). We’re intensifying our monitoring of policemen involved in all forms of illegal activities and assure the public we will apprehend them as soon as we have enough evidence against them
