Cockfighting Derby Fans In Davao Sent To Hospital For Showing Coronavirus Signs

COCKFIGHTING FANS IN DAVAO – The Philippines is known for its love of cockfighting. However, derby fans in Davao are now being traced for coronavirus signs.

According to an article from Inquirer, two individuals at a recent derby in Davao have been hospitalized after showing symptoms of COVID-19. As such, those at the venue are currently being traced by health officials.

Following this, Mayor Sara Duterte issued a pressing appeal for those who attended cockfight derbies. Additionally, these individuals are asked to voluntarily submit themselves for COVID-19 tests and quarantine.

The events were held at the New Matina Davao Gallera from March 6 to 13. According to Mayor Duterte, the two suspected coronavirus patients had been tested and are awaiting results.

Additionally, the Mayor said that family and friends of those who had close contact with the patients have been tagged as PUIs (Persons Under Investigation). As such, they were urged to immediately contact officials through their COVID-19 hotline.

As per the article, a banner for the derby showed it was in relation to the “Araw ng Dabaw” celebrations. Additionally, the derby offered a prize pool of P26 Million.

Amid the rising concern for COVID-19, Davao had previously cancelled all “Araw ng Dabaw” events and activities. However, it was not clear if the derby was among the suspended events.

Currently, the new coronavirus has affected millions of people worldwide. Moreover, there have been 378,394 people infected with COVID-19. Furthermore, 16,491 have succumbed to the deadly disease.

Meanwhile, the Philippines had recorded 39 new cases of COVID-19 bringing the nation’s total to 501. Due to the rising cases, the President has been given emergency powers to address the crisis.
