YouTube Filed Against By Black Video Artists Over Racial Discrimination
YOUTUBE – Video-sharing giant YouTube was recently charged by African American video makers by factoring in race in filtering and monetizing content.
The suit was filed in a courthouse in the Silicon Valley city of San Jose on Tuesday, according to ABS-CBN.
“Under the pretext of finding that videos violate some vague, ambiguous, and non- specific video content rule, defendants use computer driven racial, identity and viewpoint profiling and filtering tools to restrict, censor, and denigrate”
YouTube uses metadata and other “signals from videos as basis to make choices about filtering content or placing money-making advertising based on race, the suit argued.
“Defendants continue to knowingly, intentionally, and systematically block, demonetize, and deny plaintiffs and other persons similarly situated, their contractual and other legal rights to access YouTube based on the color of their skin or other protected racial traits, rather than the material in their videos,”
The suit added that the triggers for the platform filtering software include tags on videos referencing white supremacy, police brutality, and “Black Lives Matter,”

For the giant’s part, it did not return a request for comment immediately.
Based on the report, Google boosted to $1 billion on Thursday, which is the amount of free advertising that the internet giant will give to non-profits this year.
This also takes a special interest in groups combating racism, as well as the damage done by the COVID-19 pandemic.
