Ex-Miss Colombia Amputated Due to Complications After Surgery
MISS COLOMBIA AMPUTATED – Daniella Alvarez, the former Miss Universe beauty queen has been amputated due to surgery complications.
The 32-year-old beauty queen from Barranquilla, Colombia remains optimistic after her left foot has been removed. Her left leg has to be amputated after a lump in her abdomen has been removed, which cuts off the blood supply to her leg.
Daniella Alvarez admitted that she was hospitalized for the removal of a lump in her abdomen. The surgery resulted in ischemia, a complication resulting in the amputation of her leg after several operations.
The former beauty queen has been treated at the Fundación Cardioinfantil hospital. The model said that the upcoming months will be hard but she remains optimistic. She is also planning of having a prosthetic limb in the future so she could still do the things she wants.
‘Today I thank the Lord, the Virgin Mary and all of you for always being there for me. My faith, inner peace and optimism come from God. The coming months will be difficult, but I am sure the best parts of my life are to come,’ the former Miss Colombia 2011-2012 said.
The Unicef ambassador also shared her photos together with her family and ex-boyfriend at the hospital after her operation. Alvarez also runs an online boutique aside from her modeling job. She has 69,100 followers on Instagram.
What is Ischemia?
It is usually caused by the build-up of plaque in the arteries causing them to become narrow and eventually cuts off the supply of blood. It can also cause numerous health complications especial to the heart, brain, legs and intestines.
