Family Of Silvertino, Mother Who Died Waiting For Bus Gets Assistance

MICHELLE SILVERTINO – The family of Michelle Silvertino, the mother who died while waiting for a bus for five days is getting assistance from the local government.

Yesterday, news of Silvertino’s death broke the heart of thousands. The single mother was waiting for a bus ride home for five days while having health complications, and symptoms of COVID-19.

A concerned citizen sought the help of Barangay 159 but the local authorities declined to respond. Sadly, this left Silvertino alone to her own devices. Family and friends of Silvertino also reported they haven’t had contact with her since May 31.

But, a day after her story went viral, the local government of Calabanga in Bicol extended cash assistance to her family. According to an article from GMA, a P5,000 initial cash assistance was given to her family.

Moreover, the local government of Calabanga considered to give her family more. As per the article, Calabanga Mayor Eduardo Silvero stated:

Silvertino was buried without a coffin due to having symptoms of the new coronavirus. However, her family wanted her remains to be sent to Calabanga for a proper burial.

Following her death, her kids would now be placed under the custody of their uncle, Silvertino’s brother, Mario. Meanwhile, police said that Silvertino was tested positive for the new coronavirus.

But, Emi Calixto-Rubiano said the mother had yet to be swabbed for confirmatory testing.
