Labor Leader Affiliated With CPP-NPA Arrested In CAdiz City

CADIZ CITY – A labor leader who was allegedly linked to the Northern CPP-NPA was recently arrested in Caduha-an, Cadiz City on Tuesday night.

The labor leader was said to be the high-ranking official of the Northern Negros Front of the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army, according to a report from Inquirer.

The suspect, identified as Gaspar “Aldong” Davao, 55, a resident of Barangay Pinapugasan, Escalante City. Davao was on board a public utility van when he was nabbed via a joint operation conducted by the local police and the 79th Infantry Brigade.

He was nabbed for allegedly violating the city ordinance which requires the wearing of face masks.

Local city police chief Lieutenant Colonel Robert Mansueto said that the suspect descended from the vehicle, urging policemen to arrest him while he was said to have attempted to draw a frag grenade from his sling bag.

Recovered from Davao were the following items:

  • fragmentation grenade
  • antigovernment documents
  • P14,000 in cash
  • eight cellular phones
  • cash transactions
  • letters
  • newsletter of the Roselyn Jean Pelle Command
  • receipts
  • other confidential records

Upon identifyiong the suspect from the Armed Forces of the Philippines Davao, the suspect was identified as the Northern Negros Front White Area secretary and finance office.

However, the Bagong Alyansang Makabayan, said that Davao is not a rebel but a labor leader of the National Federation of Sugar Workers in northern Negros Occidental.

Based on the report, Davao was about to head home from a Bayan meeting in Bacolod City when the arrest happened.
